I begin by first, of course, meeting with the students and talking to them and learning what they wish to achieve from their lessons with me as well as their level of playing at that current moment. My teaching style is very regimented in the direction goal-setting and interests. Realistically setting goals is important for students of all abilities. Comparison from one student to the other is detrimental to the student's success as a musician, so I will tailor the progress to fit every need. I will also get the student involved with groups where they can further their learning and abilities. My greatest delight is to see my students progress. I set goals based on the students ability. I also encourage them to bring music that they want to learn to class. If it is beyond their capabilities I can re-arrange it to suit their appropriate level.I have the gift of patience and can accommodate slow learners.
