I began studying music performance in university in 2006, under the tutelage of Dr. Sara Gill. Dr. Gill had just returned from an amazing study abroad with Trevor Wye and his studio, and was able to offer cutting edge techniques. After my first year of University Dr. Gill moved, and I was subsequently passed to the instruction of the amazing Dr. Naomi Seidman. I have played the flute since I was 10 years old, and playing has become one of my great passions. Both of my degrees were in music education, although I did start a second masters degree in jazz studies. Since 1981, I've been teaching in several settings. I was a full time public school band director for four years, and have taught all the way to the college level and adults, teaching classes in jazz studies and private lessons on saxophone. With 30 years of woodwind teaching experience, I have taught all levels from elementary students to college and beyond! I encourage regular practice schedules of a half an hour five times a week. I have developed 15 practical practice techniques that are fun and advance the student at a steady pace. Also, I encourage my students to perform in small recitals biannually. Many of my students have gone on to win many awards such as Region/ All-State placements, festival first chairs and Solo and Ensemble State winners. Read More
