My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons and running sectionals at the conservatory in my hometown. I have been consistently teaching students since either in my home studio, or at different private and public institutions. I have held different faculty positions in colleges in the past 6 years. More than anything else, teaching music is what I love to do! It is a blessing to be apart of someone's musical development. In 1992, I graduated from Spring Arbor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental Performance (Flute/Piano). Then in 1996, I graduated with a Master of Music degree from University of Massachusetts-Lowell with also in Instrumental Performance. For beginner's I tend to start with lesson books, especially Hal Leonard's Essential Elements because that's what I learned from! I move up from there and like to teach lessons from all different types of genre's and also teach different techniques such as vibrato, jazz flute, etc. Scales and warm-up's are an essential part of every lesson and I always do them no matter what age student I am teaching! But I believe students should have an understanding of fundamentals of music and how it applies to their musical genres and aspirations.
