I have been teaching the flute on and off over the past ten years when my full-time career has permitted. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults. I am encouraging, fun, supportive and patient while also challenging my students to give their personal best to their music studies. Like any instrument, the flute requires consistent regular practice in order to gain foundational skills and to progress. The key ingredient to learning is interest. I believe that my students need to have an interest in what they are playing so that they can keep their minds and spirits engaged. Rudiments require attention and practice, but there is much more to learning an instrument than just technique; passion also needs nurturing. Therefore, when I start with a student, I always ask how much they want to improve and how quickly, how important music is to them, and how much time they're willing to invest daily.
