For beginning percussion students, I typically begin by teaching instrument maintenence,proper playing technique,rhythmic reading basics, and implementing a rudimental warm up exercise. Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master.  Encouraging regular practice is one of the key components I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the strudent progress and gain a passion for the instrument.  If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job!  My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own material.  I look forward to working with all new students! Additionally, information regarding where these materials can be obtained will be provided, enabling parents to acquire them for future classes. For clarinet, saxophone, Fagot or oboe students reeds should be provided by the parents. I can offer guidance on finding reeds at lower prices and selecting the appropriate sizes and brands for each instrument. When I was four years old, I sat down at the piano for the first time. The first time I pressed a key, I knew that I had a passion for music that would span my lifetime. A few years later, I took up flute and violin and joined local ensembles. I have traveled around the west coast performing classical, jazz, pop, and folk music.
