I've been teaching music for more than 12 years now. I can honestly say that I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge of music. Not everyone can say that they truly enjoy their job so I feel blessed. I have taught hundreds of students ranging from ages 4 to 80! I have taught individuals, groups or online lessons. The teaching methods I use for young beginners are a combination of Kodaly and Orff (both standard methods of public school music) as well as straight traditional notation and music theory ('tablature' is usually reserved for older, more experienced students). I'm a firm believer in teaching the fundamentals of music, while at the same time, making it fun and engaging for the learner. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. In 2017 I graduated with my BA in Music with an emphasis on Tuba from Texas State University. In 2018 I started my graduate work in Jazz Studies at Texas State University and will complete my degree in the Fall of 2019. I've been playing music for most of my life. Growing up my whole family would all gather around the piano while my father played. Seeing how inspiring and influential music could be at a young age helped me to develop a passion for it. I am very grateful to share my passion with others through teaching. I specialize in teaching improvisational styles, such as blues, jazz, and funk.
