I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. Depending on the style and level of the student, we will either find a book to start them on and guide them through the lesson, or we will hand pick music based on skill level and what the student is looking to accomplish. I'm always sure to include the music theory aspect, and why the songs function the way they do once the student reaches that point. I have always customized my curriculum for my students. I have charts that I create, with sections for notes that sometimes get used during the lesson. I put these files together in a folder for the student to take home to practice with between lessons. Depending on the student's skill level, these may be basic chord charts, scales, or custom progressions that we go over in the lessons.
