Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I have studied music since childhood and continued with two professional degrees in music. My first degree is in Vocal Performance my second is in Music Education. I have been a part of a collegiate piano studio throughout my undergraduate degree. I have been playing classical guitar since childhood, but didn't study it in a collegiate setting. I studied drum lessons at 12 years old and studied jazz and swing drumming early on. I was a percussion major in college then spent a few years in Austin Texas traveling with country, rock and blues bands. Have played on over 20 records. I've been teaching and tutoring guitar and music theory since I was in college, starting in 2013. After school, I continued instructing. Starting with the first lesson, I'll learn what the student is interested in, and build a curriculum that will reflect that interest. I've found that many students need encouragement instead of judgement to feel motivated to practice and improve at their instruments. Depending upon the students goals I like to take the approach of introducing harmony at a point in which that student is proficient on the open chords of the guitar and scales in the first position. If the student chooses to learn classical guitar I would begin with basic exercises in reading and playing from Frederick M Noad's Solo Guitar Paying. If the student prefers to learn some other style or genre, then I would begin to help the student choose and study music that presents an appropriate challenge and an opportunity for the student to build his/her repertoire.
