For beginning students and children, I'll start off with a combination of Mel Bay's Modern Guitar 1 and the book my teacher authored and self-published; The Guitar Workbook by Mike Jerant. Once they have a grasp of the open chords, we can start learning songs they're interested in. From there I began taking piano lessons up until I went to study music at the University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB I studied music composition and recording at the UCSB College of Creative Studies. I love setting lofty, reasonably challenging goals for my students and giving them music they think is too hard to play, and then watching their faces light up when they hit all the right notes they didn't know were possible to hit. I have been teaching music to students of all ages for over half of my life and have worked with numerous teaching and non-profit organizations to provide music education varying from guitar classes to entire ensembles, songwriting to recording, and vocal music to preschoolers.
