I've been teaching since before I leaving school and have worked consistently with students of all ages over the past 5 years. I studied jazz and classical guitar in college, and have continued my studies with world class private teachers since I left. I try to pass to each of my students not only a good repertoire of music and techniques, but also a strong understanding of the instrument itself to help them truly find their own voice. I really enjoy teaching and am always looking for more students. Read More

For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. Having fun is a necessary condition for learning, so I try to cultivate a fun, laid-back, no-pressure atmosphere in my lessons. Every student has their own particular set of strengths and weaknesses, goals and time contraints. I take the time to understand what each student is looking to get out of their lessons and custom-tailor a unique lesson plan for each student accordingly. I am a very patient teacher, so students will always have as much time as needed and as many repeats as needed to master a particular passage or concept. Read More

I like to find what they student is passionate about in music and start working towards honing the sound on the guitar. After the basics are learned we start creating the students very own style of the guitar depending on how they play and what genres of music they are trying to learn. This helps create a better musician. I like to encourage my students to play what they like because that is the only way they will enjoy the instrument. Read More

For beginning students, I start by teaching the fundamentals of left and right hand technique, focusing on the first position. Afterwards, we will work towards a better understanding of notes, chords and how to maneuver the guitar with both hands fluidly. Then we can explore more advanced and rewarding techniques. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin learning songs and how to perform for your friends and family. Read More
