I've been playing music from childhood, and have been teaching in studios since I was 16. I extended my practice to include home lessons when I graduated from college in 2011. I enjoy teaching music, and consider it my calling. Having started double bass in college, I began performing with the Fort Worth Symphony after studying two years. When in college in Florida, I served as Principal (first chair) Bass of the Greater Miami Opera, and the Fort Lauderdale Symphony. In graduate school in Michigan, I was Principal Bass of the Flint Symphony. Returning home to Dallas, I performed with the Dallas Symphony, and recorded over a dozen compact discs with the orchestra. I encourage the student to feel free and not to be afraid of mistakes, as mistakes will teach the student what sounds and feels like a mistake. Having the opportunity to play with someone without judgement is something every beginning student needs. When a child is learning to speak, we don't chastise them for poor sentence formation. I was born a musician and started singing at a very young age. Both of my parents were artists and musicians, and were constantly exposing me to music at church and from their favorite artists. Growing up, I would make up songs for her stuffed animals to sing and would perform them in front of anyone that would listen. This continued with friends I made later in grade school and choir. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, including being able to read both staff and tab and have some basic playing technique , I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adult students, I like to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
