For children I tend to teach songs by The Beatles as standard curriculum, as well as learning to read music proficiently. The things tend to be non-negotiable unless the parent informs me otherwise. For teens and pre-teens reading music is optional as well as the types of songs you wish to learn or the theory you wish to learn. That's just a general overview, along the way we learn all types of riffs, vamps, chords, scales, etc., to which we follow my standard development method, but never neglecting your own personal interests in music. The guitar has a poor reputation as a serious instrument, when it fact it is quite difficult, even physically un-natural to play. I do not use a heavy handed method of teaching or discipline, though I do impart the importance of practice, diligence, attention to detail, and creativity. I love to get students to be creative, so encourage them to write their own music, and spend time working on expressive interpetations of other's music. I also encourage them to play with others, as it is one of the best ways to practice and learn. Read More

I reinforce the importance of daily practice and realistic goals; 15 minutes of focused practice goes a long way at any part of one’s music development. I stress the importance of fundamentals and proper technique. It is essential early on not to form bad habits that will preclude progress. I can be contacted via email between scheduled lessons to assist a student if they are confused about a part of a lesson plan. Read More
