I've been teaching for a total of three years now. In that time I've had many different students and picked up on many different teaching techniques as a result. My experience is mostly with late elementary school students but I have also taught middle school and early high school students as well. Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. My goals as a teacher are to 1) bring students to the highest level of technical ability they are able to attain, and 2) develop in the student the highest level of musicianship possible through theory and ear training. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I believe that music should be fun and enjoyable and I approach teaching in a friendly, calm and supportive manner. I like to communicate clearly, calmly and in a manner that is helpful and not critical. I find it tremendously important to be patient, engaging and encouraging of my students. As for my experience, I have been playing guitar for 15 years, teaching for 5 years, and active in bands for 7 years. I was privileged to receive private guitar lessons myself for a decade. Also, I have a solid amount of experience with audio recording, mixing, and microphone techniques for amplifying instruments. As far as teaching credentials go, I have not earned any official documents from any institution. However, I am attending The Ohio State University with plans to graduate at the end of this year with a minor in music. Read More
