My favorite thing about teaching people about guitar and music in general is that Aha! moment when a student is able to understand a concept, or the excitement of finally being able to play a challenging passage or song. Because of this I like to set goals that I feel are within a student's ability level, but will still challenge them and ultimately lead to progression. At 14 years old I started teaching younger siblings of friends and friends. What I did was ask them what songs they wanted to learn. I have taught private and group lessons to 1st grade students all the way through Adult Centers that reflect ages 55-80 years. I've had at least three students win scholarships to Berklee School of Music in Boston, all of whom have gone on through a master's program. I have played in Rock, Country, Jazz, and Latin Groups. Since I began my career as a musician in 2009 I have taught the guitar. I have taught private and group lessons for ten years and I have guest lectured and instructed university music theory classes at the University of California at Irvine. I have taught Guitar, Lute and Ukulele at advanced levels. I was an instructor for the Saint Louis Classical Guitar Society that helped classroom teachers learn the guitar, implement guitar programs during and after school, and helped teach the classes along side them.
