I have been playing music in many kinds of bands and ensembles since the early 1980's. In the late 80's and early 90's I was the drummer for the Seattle grunge band, "Violet Grey." After moving to Portland to go to college I played in the Concordia University String Ensemble and a number of rock bands, including, "Apostolic Tackle-Box," "Andy's Dandies," and "the Quick." At 14 years old I started teaching younger siblings of friends and friends. What I did was ask them what songs they wanted to learn. I have taught two generations of musicians already. I have coordinated educational outreaches to hundreds of students at local schools and blues festivals, giving everyone a chance to play an instrument and interact with music. I help students develop their own inner passion by bringing them to community events to provide musical examples outside of the curriculum that is necessary to improve skill level on all instruments. My teaching methods are different for everyone. I adapt to their preferred learning style. I guide my instruction according to their interest and ability to learn concepts and technique.
