For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber collection (Piano basic adventures) or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. In regards to my teaching style, I tend to tailor it to the individual. Strict method adherence can leave students suffering. I do not teach using sheet music as I have inabilty to read myself. I do not believe sheet music makes a great player. I do believe it is a skill but it absolutely does not hinder the ability to become an amazing guitar player. Ive been teaching music lessons in piano, guitar, voice, and ukulele for 9 years. Though I was a vocal performance major in college, I am still proficient at guitar, piano, and ukulele.
