I then studied music theory so I could write better music. It cleared up the missing links from my "self taught" days and set the pace for me as a musician. I joined a local cover band, soon formed it into an original project, and through the transformation realized I was writing the music, and teaching my bandmates theory that in turn, made us a great jam band and gave me the freedom to always know where I am on the fretboard. In middle and high school, I performed on saxophone, bassoon, drum set, all percussion, and guitar every year. I performed jazz, classical, military, big band, and marching band music. Served as head of the drumline in high school and taught many musicians how to perform on the snare drum, multi-tenors, bass drums, and mallet percussion.
