Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I've found that with any instrument, its important to pick music that stretches you, but also music that the student likes or loves to keep them interested and engaged. It can sometimes be hard work, so it's important that the result is you either accomplishing a goal and that could be in technic or learning a song that you love. Even if the student wants to work on improve, we can figure out a song that they enjoy, or have wanted to play along with for a long time, and we can build a track of that song for them to practice too. For elementary school-aged students and younger who are just starting out, I will typically see if the student is familiar with, and a fan of, any classic or contemporary pop or rock music. If so, then basic chords and rudimentary music theory is where I like to start. If not, then teaching the student familiar, single-line melodies, using them to build up to basic scalar concepts and toward a more classical-oriented education is appropriate. Read More

I am not a taskmaster. I will gladly give homework and direction for what to practice, but it is not my job to berate students for not practicing as much as I would like them to. Everyone understands that music requires regular practice, and I believe that if it is worth it to a student to find the time to improve rapidly, they will make that time.
