I started teaching myself guitar when I was 10. Later, in high-school, my teacher frustrated with my lack of practicing came up with an idea to light a fire under me. They suggested I teach a younger classmate. Not only did I finally start practicing, but I fell in love with teaching as well. Thanks to that, I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. Read More

I began teaching music in high school by leading flute sectionals in the marching band and music theory to my fellow choir members. I focused on performing during my undergraduate studies; then had the opportunity to share my musical talents in a different way when I began my music therapy career. In music therapy, I used music to address musical and non-musical goals. I have taught adaptive lessons for guitar and piano to teenagers through the senior age group. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has started to grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I do try to maintain a balance of classical music, modern music, and music theory. Read More

I follow the interests of the student and allow that to guide the direction of our study. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. This approach yields better results than forcing a student to stick to a certain method exclusively. I encourage students to divide their practice time into practicing fundamentals and technique, songs that teach them a certain concept or technique, and songs that they would like to perform or play for fun. Instruments: Guitar, Voice
I would say I'm a fun teacher. If learning music isn't a fun experience then why do it anyway right? With guitar or singing, I will always teach the music theory behind what we are doing, but to be honest I'm more of a "Feel" guy. Meaning I'm not super technical. I will teach you proper technique for playing guitar and singing, but what I really enjoy is the process of learning songs you love, and doing it with your own style. Read More
