I tend to use the Faber Piano Adventure series as the basis for starting lessons. This series is very widely known and it is really one of the best methods available for teachers to use. I like it because two people are the authors and composers, a husband a wife team, and together they create interesting and enjoyable compositions that students of all ages like to play. I believe patience coupled with encouragement can be a recipe for success. When the student develops their own passion for music and their instrument their abilities tend to soar. I attempt to set realistic goals for the student but I am very adaptable and flexible. I still remember being able to strum my first song on the guitar. After that I was hooked! I believe in understanding the fundamentals and learning the technical aspects are important, however I have seen firsthand how enjoying music and the instrument and being able to play a song and not just a scale can lead to an increased desire to play and learn more. My lessons range from beginner to advanced, and my curriculum revolves around: 1) Understanding the basics of theory, and showcasing how those basics are applied in songs (specifically bands and artists that you regularly listen to). 2) Proper technique, and also 3) Some fun and fancy tricks!
