I've performed in bands on stage since the age of 16, and have written music for several bands, often as the primary singer, songwriter and front man. Presently I play bass in the death metal band Heretical Sect, who have been featured in Decibel magazine, but my interests in music lie within a spectrum of folk, classical, metal and rock. I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. I work with students to understand what their goals are, what their interests are, what their backgrounds are, and we work together to create an educational trajectory that meets these goals. I have been teaching Orchestra with Albuquerque Public Schools for over 30 years and have been at Jimmy Carter Middle School for 20 years. Before that, I taught Orchestra at Grant and Kennedy Middle School. I do truly enjoy teaching all ages even though most of my experience is with Middle School children. Many of my students continue taking lessons with me through their years in High School. It's never to late to begin playing an instrument, so I encourage older students to try it too! Read More

I vary students lessons with their interests and find the best teaching methods and practices to fit their needs. I encourage students to set up goals at the beginning of each semester. I believe everyone is different and unique. Everyone has different personalities and pace on learning anything. No one can stop you on learning but yourself. But time devoting is very important.
