I myself am a music student on my way to study at University of Alabama for a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have been privately instructing students of all ages for a full three years, starting when I was fifteen. I never turn down an opportunity to perform, and have played in multiple orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz bands, and marching bands. For my beginning students I like to start with multiple methods such as simple tabs to teach string use, what I like to call as power chord theory with simple power chord knowledge. I do this because you don't have to worry about major, minor, augmented, or diminished when power chords. I can go ahead start basic theory lessons on this. I also have another where I teach open chords and eventually all my beginning students will get all these lessons before I move on to scales and the 7 positions or as they say modes of each scale.
