My teaching experience began during my college years, when I started giving private lessons and discovered how much I loved helping students grow as musicians. My lessons will typically begin with a series of questions. Basically, what is the goal of the student. Whether it is to just relax at home after work, or school or perform solo piano at a coffee shop, or learn songs off of the internet or a method book of their preference, I encourage students to be patient, diligent and to never ever skip a day of practice. I believe in exercises (Hanon, Scales, Arpeggios) in order to strenghten the muscles of the hands, and develop a proper technique. Read More

For beginning students who have never touched music in their lives (mostly children), I start out with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book of their chosen instrument. From there, we learn how to read music, play in time, and play the instrument itself. Once the student feels comfortable with the practices in the book, I move on to introduce solo repertoire to prepare for a recital. Later I will teach more advanced theory for intermediate students and start showing them how to put the knowledge together. For advanced students we will start transposing between different keys and scales and mixing scales together and eventually be able to circle through the circle of fifths the best we can.
