I find that a mix of classic technique with something more modern such as pop, rock or jazz can ignite the inspiration to actually want to learn more of the complex yet essential aspects of music. My students are encouraged to compose their own music as well as collaborate with other students to create and share their work. My students are always encouraged to ask questions and speak up if something isn't their style. Each student is unique, and my teaching style changes to accommodate differences in age, musical background, musical interests, and goals. For younger students, I recommend a shorter 30 minute session, often broken into segments to retain focus with a child's attention span Each lesson begins with review of assigned material and explanation of the next assignment. I have playing for 25 years and am extremely knowledgeable in everything music and especially guitar. I am familiar with all sorts of music, have played in bands, and now write my own songs.
