For beginning students, I always start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I've found this book to be the best at introducing the instrument and reading the music. I may or may not continue teaching out of the books (there's 3), but that depends on the student. By book 2 or 3 I usually begin introducing Suzuki, as there are many solo pieces for them. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with either Music for Little Mozarts Series or Piano Adventure Series with essential music theory related piano. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoires appropriate for their performance levels. For Beginning Children, I start with Allred's Basic Piano Library All in one course Book 1. This book is great for beginning works to help them grasp the fundamentals of music. Once this has perfected, the introduction of solo repertoire will being for the student. For Teens and Adults, we will begin with Alfred's Group Piano Book 1 which covers multiple sections of piano starting with fundamentals and solo repertoire. I'm relatively new to the teaching life, but I love it regardless. I started in September of 2018 with one student who I taught throughout the semester, and seeing him grow throughout the months was satisfying unlike anything else I've experienced. I taught one student a semester due to my school commitments but still managed to teach them a lot and open their eyes to the world of music.
