I like to bring in all genre's of music including rock and pop, folksongs, movie tunes just to name a few. I find that students learn quickly when learning music that is already familiar to them. I work with tapping rhythms and singing note names, then learn how to pluck the part and then finally add the bow. My teaching experience dates back to my high school years. I tutored my siblings while they were practicing the piano. In school band, I was the sectional leader who lead and taught new members learning how to play the flute. Those experiences became my motivation to be a good music teacher. I really enjoyed teaching different ages of students, learning from each other, and growing altogether. I incorporate a well-rounded approach with my students by teaching musical skills beyond their particular instruments such as aural skills and theory. I use my background and training in Kodaly and Orff to teach music like a language by directing my students through experience and practice of the concept for better understanding.
