I want to give my student the experience of success from the start. With an appropriate printed resource, and audio recordings to listen to, they are equipped with the materials for self-study from the start. The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. Different methods for different needs is how I help each person learn for maximum enjoyment and success. I include stretching, finger exercises, focusing tools, and relaxation techniques. I teach beginners to read music (even if they cannot read words yet) and to play creatively, by ear (even if they can already read music.)
