Starting from my days of undergraduate school, I began to teach as an assistant in the department of music at the state university of New York at Stony Brook for a foundational music course. This experience was not only challenging, but exhilarating catapulting me to want to share the joys of music with others. In response, I started my own private music teaching business and contracted with some local music stores to teach introduction to piano and beginner to intermediate levels for guitar, bass guitar, and general music theory. For beginner students who are adults, I tend to begin with Alfreds Basic Adult All in One Course. It is a wonderful book that teaches beginning theory and piano concepts at the perfect pace for adult students. As we progress through the book together, I begin to give pieces such as Clementis Sonatina in C (first movement). We start at a slower tempo and work each hand individually until the student is comfortable to try both hands. Read More
