Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. For beginning students on guitar i typically start wih Hal Leonards book 1. With about 50 pages in this book, we can go thru at a steady pace and be playing songs from the beginning. Makeing music from the very beginning is the key ! Even the simple one line practice exercizes i back up with a harmonic chordal accompaniment for a satisfying duet. My teaching style consists of building a report with my student while really using their interest as motivation. I set realistic goals while also challenging the student to achieve success. Each lesson will start with warm ups and guidance on how to reach the daily goal. When introducing a new concept I like to demonstrate and then have the student try what was modeled. When teaching drums or percussion to a beginner, I always start with basic stick-control and technique. I have numerous methods for progression but after some time, I always let the student's interests and goals lead the way. My teaching career began in college. I taught trombone lessons and was an instructor for the Hampton University Band Camp. In 2009 I became a graduate assistant at Central Michigan University. I also taught at an elementary school while I was in graduate school. After college I moved to North Carolina and became a band director on the middle school and high school level. My strongest skill is composition and arranging. My works have been played on the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional level. Eric Schwartz has studied composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music, New York University, and both the Interlochen and Aspen Summer Music Festivals. Past teachers have included Margaret Brouwer, Donald Erb, George Tsontakis, and Randy Woolf. Primarily interested in a synthesis of musical archetypes, Schwartz is always at work on a variety of genre bending projects.
