My teaching philosophy has five basic elements that I always follow: differentiation, engagement, feedback, ownership, assessment and questioning. I teach students with different music levels, backboards, and ages. I try my best to start with what my student can do then extend within student's own context, so each of my students is very unique and special for me. I have been teaching on and off since 2010 and now teach almost exclusively from my home studio in Bloomington, IN. I've had the experience of teaching everyone from 4 year olds to advanced adult students and implemented various teaching methods for the many different minds learning styles. I always liked to look at the art of music like learning a language so I have since learned to create individualized lesson plans for my students that gives students plenty time to "speak", that is learning the fundamentals, phrases, and tools to share their personal story and to study the vast pedigree of music that has come before them. I am so excited to see my students grow in their vocal craft. Using correct placement and vocal methods, I hope for all of my students to develop healthy, fluid, and consistency of sound flow! I promise I am patient, kind, empathetic, and I understand that while getting proper vocal technique is important, there is nothing more important than mental health. I started teaching lessons when I was 18 at a music business and taught there between 3 to 5 hours a week for about 5 years. For the past 5 years I have been teaching at IU. I have taught many different styles from classical to jazz to rock, etc. and have also watched many great teachers and tried to learn from their methods. I am currently working on a book to teach the notes and fretboard of the guitar that will hopefully be able to help students of any age or experience. Read More
