My teaching experience dates back to when I was a Junior in high school. I began teaching some group guitar classes and violin lessons. I believe that it's important to instill a love for music as that is what will keep the student practicing throughout the years. I am certified to teach the O'Connor method. I have used a variety of books with my students, but generally start students with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I use a mix of books (note reading), ear training, and musical games (depending on age) in lessons. I like to offer students a variety of learning styles, in order to find the one that best suits them. The way I approach teaching percussion is starting with an introduction and working through along the way. I usually teach in a way that allows the student to be able to perform freely. At first, I work with them and show them how to play a certain rhythm and then I allow them to play it on their own. Nothing is imposed, nothing is reached if the student did not ask for it. For beginning students I make sure we know every warm up exercise and stretching exercises for the fingers after explaining the importance of rehearsing properly. We will start getting familiarized with a couple circles until the student fluently knows how to accompany every chord. After we are going to learn scales so they also familiarized with licks and comp.
