Each lesson, I will prepare 4 sections for my students: warm-up, review, learning new music, and questions/smart tips time. I believe fundamental techniques are super important for students to advance their music. I also pay attention to what students are interested in. I grew up in the Washington DC area playing Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. I attended Walt Whitman High School and was a member of its award winning Jazz Ensemble as a Tenor Saxophonist. I like to develop a personalized lesson plan for each student beginning with an evaluation during the first lesson. I have made sure to transfer all of these skills to my private teaching. I am very direct with my students and act as facilitator in lesson discussions, and to try not making decisions for them. I heavily employ the "trial by fire" and "sink or swim" methods, as I've found those the most effective in my lifetime of learning new things.
