It's very important to me that the student progresses at their own pace while still being presented with new challenges along the way. I believe in a well-rounded music education, by teaching music theory and ear training from the very beginning along with private instruction, supplemented by listening/analyzing music, ensemble playing, performance opportunities, and using the best of new music technology software to increase one's overall musicianship. I work hard to personalize the experience for each student, listening to their needs and working off their personal strengths and weaknesses. Read More

I’m enthusiastic in teaching piano for students within diverse music backgrounds and wide array of age span. I’ve performed concerts across the state for competitions, festivals and outreach recitals. I also have rich experiences working as a collaborator in performances and rehearsals within ensemble groups either as a member or as a coach. Performing venues that I involved include Mixon Hall and Kulas Hall in Cleveland Institute of Music, Staller Center at Stony Brook University, Ruby Diamond Concert Hall in Tallahassee FL, University Center Hall at University of Florida, Beijing Concert Hall, etc. Read More

As soon as they learn three notes, we start making music by playing simple melodies, even on one string. For older more advanced beginner and advanced students, I focus on a variety music which will motivate them to practice, learn and have fun. I encourage recitals which makes it more real what they are learning. I encourage and motivate a consistent practice schedule so they can see their progress. Several students of mine have gone on to music colleges. Read More

My method of working with drums and percussion is to first get a sense of what the student's goals are. These include both goals involving general drums/percussion and career/performance goals. We will then work together to form a plan to achieve them. This will include exercises tailored directly to the student's needs and desires within drums/percussion as well as overall musical standings and guiding the student to repertoire that will both be fun for them to play and will teach them more about the concepts we are working on. In my years of teaching experience in music, English as a second language, and biology, I have found that different students learn differently. Some do best learning by demonstration, others by reading sheet music, others through discussion and application. In general, I have found that when students are given individual focus and a lesson plan built upon their strengths, they excel! I make sure that, whether in individual or clinic style settings, I give attention to each student, work with them, and help them achieve their goals! Read More
