For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. I take a student-led approach where I assess what a student is interested in and then create a repertoire of music for them to learn from. I like to teach concepts through example by showing students songs and pieces related to what they're working on. I try to start from the ground up as much as possible.
