I use a variety of books, tailored to the student based on my initial viewing of their abilities and what they are interested in learning. I also create my own lesson plans using exercises and music I have written myself. No two lesson plans will be the same as everyone learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. I also strive to make lessons continuously fun and interesting. I try to encourage creativity in music in both performing and writing your own drum parts to music that you enjoy. Read More

My method is a balanced approach between learning the technic to play the instrument and the harmony/theory involved with what the student is learning. For everything learned there are exercises with songs from any music style that the student would like to focus on. The objective on the classes is to give the student the elements to explore his sound, with a little understanding of harmony and how to apply it to the instrument the student can explore more his/her instrument and enjoy expressing art through music. To this end, I seek a balance in my courses between lecturing to students and asking them to make discoveries. I encourage students to engage with the topic at hand, with me, and with each other in the belief that good teaching depends upon intellectual exchange. Second, the student is expected to master a body of knowledge and familiarity with those composers, pieces, terms, and concepts studied in the course. Read More

My goal is to make sure every student has fun with their instrument. Nothing is worse than seeing a student hate their instrument because they are forced to play. I have supplemented scales and technical exercises with rock music, church music, and Disney songs to keep each child engaged! If a student is self-motivated, they are more likely to practice on their own, continue finding new music to play, and want to advance their skill level to play more challenging repertoire. Read More

What I like to do is find out what my students know about music and then work from there. For instrumental I start with basics and play through scales to see how they play and how they can improve. For students that are younger or completely new to music, we would start with very basic general music terms and would become very close to the instrument of choice knowing the parts, how sound works with the instrument and how to properly play the instrument (close to the Suzuki method). my instructions are easy to follow no matter the age or ability level.
