Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I teach harmony, rhythm, technique, melody, and basic sight reading by a two fold approach. First is to really feel into the music. This means learning to listen deeply with curiosity, intention, respect, and joy bringing the meaning of play into every aspect of learning. The second part is to begin with the basics of music theory by grounding fully into the fundamentals. As a teacher in the classroom, I focus on experiential methods such as giving students access to a variety of instruments in order to find where a student's preferences are, and what their natural talents are. I like to group students together and see how they can work together to accomplish a musical goal, such as performing a 30 second group composition.
