After experiencing performance injuries like tendonitis at a young age, I specifically gear my teaching style toward healthy playing practices that are conducive to playing with ease. During my undergraduate degree, I have completed an introductory course and multiple workshops on the Alexander Technique. I have geared my playing to this mindful practice, and I believe that it is beneficial for any musician of any level to experience it. I payed great detail to how others taught me as I found it to be useful to not only learn how to play music, but to teach myself to play music through observing how others taught me. For beginning students that are k-12 I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to align with the public school music curriculum. For those 18+ or hoping to learn an instrument outside of school purposes I highly encourage students to pick out their own repertoire to learn however I'm more than happy to help with the process of choosing music.
