I started playing trumpet and piano in Kindergarten, I have played trumpet for over 46 years and have been in various groups in Elem, Jr. High and HS. I played trumpet from when I was a Kindergartener. I was self taught. I was first chair, in Amarillo High School band, and did solo and ensemble competitions earning a one in rating many times. I use educational tools such as videos and games to also teach, especially for the younger ones. This makes them enjoy the lesson more I've found. For beginners, which is mainly what I've taught so far, I try and see what their goals are and teach them accordingly. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show.
