Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I use generally use Faber and Faber for piano and the Yamaha method for guitar. However, each student learns differently therefore I like to meet and assess the needs before choosing a course to follow. For band students, I use the school's chosen method of instruction supplementing with theory, technique and performance pieces. For piano students, I get to know each student's taste in music and choose accordingly. For beginning students, I typically start with the universal drum exercises every drummer should know, like the Ted Reed's book "syncopation" or the very classic "stick control". These exercises are mostly for warm ups, hand coordination, internalizing rhythm, and speed training. Depending on their musical background, I often like to introduce basic music theory concepts just so we are able to speak the same language. Methods change depending on a student's level. I want a beginner to feel completely comfortable being a beginner. We start with the basics and I adjust material to personal levels of development. If you have previous experience, we will use the first lesson to assess technique and repetorie and advance from there. I am aware of several piano workbooks that take you from beginner to level four, these are not always the best for every student. Read More

Every student has different needs. I offer a relaxed style of teaching. Safe, comfortable evironment. Parents are always welcome to attend lessons for their students if need be. I have a student tell me what their goals are and we go from there. Some students may have a greater understanding of how the language on the page works. Others may have very natural ability to play the instrument, but may have more trouble with the notation if you will. Read More

His compositions for Jazz Orchestra have been performed by high school, college, and professional big bands in Minnesota. He is a member of the Twin Cities Jazz Composer’s Workshop, and is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the MetroNOME Foundation. He books and arranges youth jazz performances for MetroNOME' Brewery’s Next Generation Jazz Series. His group, the Blue Ox Jazz Trio, is consistently upholding a busy performance schedule, performing at restaurants, clubs, weddings, private events, and countless retirement homes every year.
