This helped me progress vocally so that by the time I entered college I was able to focus on a performance aspect. In voice lessons, I start with the Bel Cantor style of teaching and once the fundamentals of singing have been achieved, its time to learn how to break the rules and maintain a healthy singing voice. In teaching piano, I use the book Alfred Adult for my beginning students. My method of teaching can vary from student to student, but my primary way of teaching is what I like to call, sound before symbol. Learning music is like learning a language. We do not come out of the womb and handed a dictionary. Instead, we listen, imitate, speak, and then learn how to read and write.
