For my youngest students I start with a method book as I think the structure and step by step progress are very helpful. For teens and adults book recommendations are based on each students needs. I let the students guide me with the kinds of music they will really enjoy playing, but I will use the music they like to teach theory, song writing, and other aspects of music. Before earning my bachelor's degree in K-12 Music Education in 2020, I held a longtime position as a tenor vocalist and choral leader with First Christian Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and post-degree as a K-12 music teacher in dual-language immersion public schools and technology-focused charter schools in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. He began his journey as a conductor at the age of 16, when he was selected as Assistant Conductor of the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, in which he also served as concertmaster.
