Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I graduated from Concordia University Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a specialization in piano. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard’s essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what students is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I hope to inspire a love of music in others through my teaching, playing, and composing. In 2012 I graduated from Eastman School of Music with High Honors, and in 2015 I received a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from New York University, and in 2022 I received a PhD in Music Performance from NYU. I honestly play it by ear for each student. Everyone is different and has different goals. After meeting with a student and finding out their level and what they want to do, I might have them start by playing 2 notes really well as a first step, but it might include ensuring they can play them accurately on command with a beautiful sound, great start and end to each note, steady sound, solid intonation, and any dynamic requested. Teaching for me is about finding a balance. The way I approach a lesson consists of focusing solely on the students goals and aspirations and working on that, but also demonstrating yourself to be a good musician and teacher who your student trusts and receives inspiration from.
