For beginning cello students of all ages, I normally use one of my teacher's method books: Cellocity by Helga Winold of Indiana University. As my cello students progress, I slowly introduce smaller pieces that can normally be found in Suzuki method books. After my cello students have advanced significantly, I begin to introduce more complex pieces that are found in the standard cello repertoire. I've found the best way to teach is to cater to each student's interest. While early or beginning players may require some fundamental grunt work, there is always a way to assure that it's fun too. Earlier students would need to start learning the basics: rhythm, learning to read, developing technique through scales etc. of which there are many methods. As students mature, I feel the Suzuki method for aspiring classical students is the best route (there are multiple books in this series) along with some other extensive and more challenging works. I strongly believe that everyone can learn to sing as long as they desire to learn and are willing to practice. I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities, and pride myself on being able to teach pretty much anyone and everyone. I begin all students with the same fundamentals: a healthy, natural, honest voice centered on the breath and not forced into any specific mold.
