I have always been very talented at playing piano and singing. I started taking private lessons in 1984 when I was seven years old and at 13 began to teach as a cadette teacher in a private music studio. In 1991 my father married a nationally known singing artist and that is when I began to learn a lot about the piano. I picked up tips from many of the best musicians in Nashville. Read More

I began teaching piano my sophomore year of college. During my college career, I built up a studio of nearly 20 students, tutored college-level piano courses, and worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Sight Singing and Aural Training. Since then, I taught for two years at a Summer Music Conservatory in Texas, led week-long keyboard intensive seminars throughout Western Kenya, and most recently, taught at the nation's largest piano conservatory. I believe that lessons should be fun, fast-paced, and stimulate the whole child through a wide variety of songs and genres. Read More

Nothing is more important than seeing my students develop passion for music! During individual lessons, I applied various strategies and focused on personalized ways to help my students solve their performance issues. I exercised patience and looked for even small improvements to praise with verbal encouragement and rewards for younger students. I broke down students' difficulties by incorporating various speeds, articulations, dotted rhythm practice, and minimum motion. When students encountered performance problems, I told stories of my own struggles and those of well-known composers to draw their interest and calm their anxieties. Read More

Sometimes musicianship is as much "caught" as it is "taught." So, it's important to carefully monitor and foster a student's progress. I will use a lot of coaching, affirmation, reassurance, and encouragement to fuel a student's progress and desire to stay with it. Training in several disciplines help to identify and cater my teaching style to the needs of the student. I don't use a "cookie cutter" approach to teaching. Read More

Nothing makes me feel better than seeing my students enjoy their time with the instrument! Therefore, I feel that it's necessary to fit my teaching style to the student's desire. I start the first lesson by asking them about the music that they listen to to get a sense of their music style. Furthermore, I am interested in the student's goals for their lessons. After asking these important question, I can contruct a personalized lesson plan based on the student's wants and needs. Read More
