Most of my students use Alfred's Piano Course. After just a few lessons, we add in additional books and songs to expose the student to as much music as possible. I believe that the more music a student is exposed to, the better a musician he or she becomes. I studied percussion under Dr. Koontz at Eastern Kentucky University, where I learned to play all sorts of different styles ranging from classical to global. I performed with Eastern Kentucky University's percussion ensemble on various instruments ranging from vibes to marimba, concert snare, and even pan. Soon after, I auditioned for a World Class Indoor Percussion ensemble in Lexington, Kentucky, where I grew exponentially under the tutelage of world-famous instructors such as Nick Angelis and Zach Schlicher. I teach in the bel canto style as I was taught, focusing on developing a greater capacity for breath control, relaxation of the tongue and jaw, good posture, and freedom of movement. However, I tailor every lesson to the student's needs and focus on addressing the vocal issues they face on a given day and in general. I develop a plan for the student each week, like learning a section of a piece or working on diction in a specific verse, but adapt this plan depending on how the student feels that day and what their input is.
