I began teaching in 2001. I teach voice, piano, and didgeridoo. I have performed at multiple locations locally including the Broward Performing Arts Center and the Lincoln theater. I have taught college Theory classes and Music Appreciation classes and have my MA in music history and literature. Each student is different, so I use different method books to suit how he or she learns.  One student may learn quickly in note reading while another is stronger in memorization.  I use classical repertoire to give the students a solid foundation, and then as they progress, I will introduce popular songs that they love.  I incorporate music theory in all of my lessons because knowing theory opens many doors to what one can do with music! I like teaching and performing music. There is nothing better than when I learn to play the piece well. Also-when I teach the beginning student-it is great to see how that student develops his/her playing over the days/weeks/months. It is good to have constant attention of the teacher because of learning to play the pieces in correct way is very important. In middle and high school, I performed on saxophone, bassoon, drum set, all percussion, and guitar every year. I performed jazz, classical, military, big band, and marching band music. Served as head of the drumline in high school and taught many musicians how to perform on the snare drum, multi-tenors, bass drums, and mallet percussion. I take the student through reading the roadmap of music: first and second endings, codas, repeat signs, key signatures, Clef signs, DSal coda. dynamics. I introduce the three parts of music: melody, harmony, rhythm. Since ive already discussed melody and counting rhythm I move unto harmony. I go back to the major scale and explain intervals and build chords on the notes of the scale in thirds. I will alter chords with them and construct some interesting chord progressions. Read More
