My teaching method begins with fundamentals. First, I teach about the piano itself. Second, I teach the notes. Third, I teach tones and steps. Fourth, I teach about major and minor scales.  Drawing upon my education and experiences as both performer and teacher, I strive to relate my musical background to my students' learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. I have young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. According to a student's level of musicianship (beginner, advanced or in between), students are taught how to read music, music theory in relation to their progress, chords, scales and how to write/compose their own songs. Eric Schwartz has studied composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music, New York University, and both the Interlochen and Aspen Summer Music Festivals. Past teachers have included Margaret Brouwer, Donald Erb, George Tsontakis, and Randy Woolf. Primarily interested in a synthesis of musical archetypes, Schwartz is always at work on a variety of genre bending projects. I started as a very motivated child in the 2 nd grade and became a student of a famous professional performer. I loved Music and the Piano, studied violin, cello, and double bass. I performed often in local concerts, theatre, and went on a tour around the State of Michigan, during High School. I have taught private voice/piano lessons for the 5 years. I have experience teaching students from ages 10-65. When teaching any student at any level, I begin with fundamentals in order to better assess their skill level. As other techniques are introduced, I continue to reinforce the fundamentals. I encourage my students to practice every day and help them to set goals for their practice sessions throughout the week.
