After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. I try to take each student as an individual with their own unique personality, likes and dislikes, and motivations. So I enjoy customizing a lesson plan that is as individual as each student. I have been experiencing the love of playing and performing music for 40 years and still find it challenging to this day. Music is a journey of the senses which can open and expand our minds.For the first 11 years of my musical journey, I journeyed hours and hours in the discovery of the rhythms, notes and expression but I journeyed in solitude.What a wonderful joy wasawaiting me when I discovered how much fun it was to make music as part of an ensemble or as I like to think of it, a team.A musical team can be a band, an orchestra, a chorus, a churchchoir,a quartet, ora duet, and in all cases it is exhilarating to make music with other people.I hope that I can guide and encourage my students to learn to enjoy this journey that can provide a life time of adventure, social interaction and creativity. There is no one method that fits every student. My methods involve a preliminary assessment of each students individual needs, goals and current level to determine the appropriate path we should embark on. While I do use various piano methods, such as Piano Adventures and Alfred's Basic Piano Course to guide beginning students along, I try to ensure that the course work is a side note to the primary musical goal of our weekly lesson, as well as the weekly homework.
