I started teaching piano at age 16 after being certified by my own instructor. I had one student I saw weekly and though at first she was against the piano, I worked with her intensely on genres and styles that she enjoyed playing. I also substituted for my piano instructor when she was sick and taught a plethora of children. I have loved music ever since I was three and picked up two fallen tree branches, pretending they were a violin. I want my students to have a good time and enjoy the lessons. For beginning students on guitar i typically start wih Hal Leonards book 1. With about 50 pages in this book, we can go thru at a steady pace and be playing songs from the beginning. Makeing music from the very beginning is the key ! Even the simple one line practice exercizes i back up with a harmonic chordal accompaniment for a satisfying duet. I absolutely love seeing my students really learn their new techniques and music! I am a very patient person and definitely allow each student to learn at his / her own pace, encouraging them to know each technique in several different ways, to truly have a good understanding of not only what they are playing, but how and why. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools.
