My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching college-entrance level music theory classes and private piano lessons. For the past of ten years, I have been teaching classical piano, music theory, ear training, jazz piano, jazz history/theory, and k-12 level school bands including young winds, symphonic band and jazz band. I teach students with different music levels and ages. And I speak Mandarin and English, and I have been teaching bilingually for almost my entire teaching career. Read More

When meeting a new student, I try to make the student comfortable and at ease. Singing is such a personal thing, so feeling safe is important. By age eighteen, I won the Music Teacher's National Association's Solo Piano Competition for the State of Florida, First Prize in the Florida State Music Teachers Association's Gold Cup Concerto Competition, and Second Prize in the Harold C. Schwartz Foundation Scholarship Competition. Presently, while pursuing my doctorate at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, I have built a substantial presence in the competitive field; the previous seasons have been immensely successful, having earned gold medal and first prize in the 68th Wideman International Piano Concerto Competition, as well as first prize at the National finals of the Music Teachers National Association's Young Artist Competition, sponsored by Steinway and Sons. For adults, I try to find out what they are interested in, e.g. (song structure, chord intervals, scales, hand technique) and adjust my lessons accordingly to help them meet their goals. Read More

The best feeling for me is to see a student develop their own passion for music. Therefore I do not believe in forcing a student to progress at a certain pace. That said, I like to develop skill sets to a very strong level before moving forward to new skill sets. I am a firm believer in acknowledging progress and positive reinforcement. Above all else, I believe the students goals and interests are truly what guides the lessons. I may explain and design a path for the student, but it all comes back to the destination that they desire. Read More
