I love seeing progression! During the first lesson or two, I like to see what all the student knows and what they are currently capable of. From there I can see where we need to start from and work our way forward. I don't like overloading the student with too much information at once, so I focus only on a few concepts at a time and work on it until they fully understand. Read More

I typically will start each student with preliminary lesson that allows me a chance to assess the student's current level, and knowledge base. This preliminary lesson also gives me a chance to do what I call a "method book fitting" this allows me to assess how compatible different method books are with my students personality and learning style. At the end of the first lesson, I typically will leave the student with a loaner copy of the method book I have "fitted" them with and a basic assignment for the first week. Read More

When something is too difficult for a student, I break it down into smaller, more understandable pieces, or change tactics to a different subject or piece. I use many resources and try to differentiate activities to keep students engaged and learning. Read More
