Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.
lessons are available in the following areas:
Instruments: Piano
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Burnam's A Dozeon A Day and Faber's Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For students who take ABRSM exam, I will not only focus on playing of three repertoire, but also the skills of sight-playing and ear-training. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Voice
From a young age I have been an active teacher. Advanced for my age I vividly remember tutoring my classmates in the Fourth grade. Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. While in undergrad at DePauw University I served as an Orientation/First-Year Seminar Mentor, helping first year students adjust to campus academic and social life. I was employed for 3 years at the local Presbyterian Church as the adult and childrens choir conductor. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Drums, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Conga, Music
I began teaching percussion immediately after high school. While attending EKU, I helped my former high school by teaching the percussion section during the marching band season. I taught the section every year for about 12 years before being hired as a full-time teacher and becoming the assistant director of the band. I still mainly focus on the percussion section every year, but my responsibilities have spread to assisting with other sections of the band as well. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Trumpet, Bass Guitar, French Horn, Keyboard, Acoustic Guitar
My students get a strong base in theory, technique, and repertoire...usually focused on identified goals and outcomes. As students grow in ability and age, I engage their interests more so their instruction is more fulfilling. I use a unique approach to practice (I call the "nitty-gritty") with lots of fun (I call "music recreation") are techniques I use to keep students motivated. There is W-O-R-K to music. I will keep the focus on the accomplishment so that work may become ethic that lasts a lifetime. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Voice, Synthesizer
I typically start my lessons with something positive about the day and start with scales. I am very laid back and let children (if they're taking the lesson) enjoy themselves and have fun because piano should be fun, as it is very rewarding to those who play well. For adults I gather from what the student is able to do on the piano from the first lesson and then go from there. Read More
