Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. In most of my lessons, I use one of several piano methods, which I supplement with additional materials, chosen according to the student's musical preferences and goals. My preferred courses for beginning students are Alfred, Faber and Bastien. I always include music theory, as it is fundamental to appreciating and understanding the music, and it allows students to learn the basics of improvisation. For students interested also in vocal training, I have experience and an excellent teaching method available. Read More

Lessons are broken up into two parts: Technique and repertoire. It's important to build up proper technique to prevent injury and to refine skill. I like students to work on three pieces at a time (It sounds scary, but is totally manageable.) If I feel the student can handle more music, I will adjust. The first piece is at the student's skill level. This is so the student can accomplish the task at hand relatively quickly without a lot of wood shedding. Read More

He currently hosts a jazz radio show called "Hard Choices" which airs on Saturdays at 11 a.m. on KMHD 89.1 FM in Portland, OR. Read More

For beginning students I usually use the Faber method. I usually work through to level 2a then I begin exposing the student to repertoire. Each lesson is spent listening to the work they have done and music theory, of course. Each week the student will be assigned a task to complete. For adults, it very much depends on what the student already knows, what they want to learn and how much experience they have. Read More

My methods are for students who are interested in stepping outside of the box to free their own soul to channel the song within them. My methods are unique to each student. In fact, I treat teaching itself as a creative art. I teach students to teach themselves. Like a mother bird tossing the young bird out of the nest, I teach you to fly by throwing you up in the air, so to speak- metaphorically. Read More
