One thing I strongly encourage is the student to go at his/her pace. There is no judgement on the capability of learning an instrument and because of that I completely understand how long (or how short) a student can learn the drums/piano etc. I try to make every student feel accomplished in a session especially when the material being taught is new and intimidating. But regardless, there will always be a sense of accomplishment because as long as the student feels as if they accomplished something(small or large) I will make it my duty to make sure they know it. My teaching experience pre-dates college. I started teaching private drum-set lessons when I was in high school - I was also section leader so I would frequently hold after school sectionals with the entire percussion section. After going to college I started to teach more and more privately, gaining more students here and there. Once I started my practicum and student teaching experience I was teaching in many public schools districts of ranging variety from - Paterson public schools, to Allendale public schools, then to Wayne public schools -ranging from grade levels K to 12th grade.
