I have been teaching for 5 years in both private lesson situations and and group lesson situations. I enjoy teaching beginner piano and flute and teaching all levels on the clarinet and saxophones. I have taught in both the classical and jazz idioms. I have taught as young as seven and as old as seventh and I enjoy seeing what curious students bring to the lesson. Individual, with an initial focus on technical proficiency and sight reading. I believe in a strong basic foundation and a LOT of performance opportunities! A few times a year, I try to arrange to have additional performances for my students as well as providing information and updates about concerts and performances around them (my own included!). For all my students I like to balance between making our way through a method book and breaking down different songs and exercises. I recommend Hal Leonard's Essential Elements/Method books or Standard of Excellence books for my woodwind/guitar/ukulele students, Piano Adventures by Faber books for my piano students, and Breaking It Down or Alfred's Beginning Drumset Method for my drum students. Once the student has gained an understanding of basic sight-reading, then we can move on to more advanced books that can be focused on a theme or other advanced methods. Read More
