My musical career started as a singer growing up in Washington DC. I have been playing saxophone for almost 15 years and have been composing for 8. I have maintained a private studio for 6 years and have taught students from 8-18. I have lots of experience singing and playing in lots of different genres of music and have always maintained the importance of being able to play in multiple genres. For the advanced students (only voice, saxophone, and theory), we will be learning how to break down pieces by learning music theory. Form and analysis will be at the forefront of your performance as it is essential to gaining a deeper understanding of your pieces. I am a passionate and motivated music educator who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Kentucky State University in 1980 with a BS Degree in Music Education. For beginners through intermediate students I normally use the Rubank Method, Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Trevor Wye Tone, and Boehm Method books to start students out on to ensure their success in band class and their affordability for home practice.
