For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. I graduate from Jackson State University with a degree in music and immediately began touring with Major Label artist and performing professionally at an early age. I am a member of The Grammy's and working/ touring with Grammy Award-Winning Multiplatinum artist as well as other artist within the music industry. He and I performed weekly during our time at GA State U. jazz dept. from the jazz department, as well as many stadium arena shows w Zac and the guys! From there I met the leaders of the Yacht Rock Revue and went on to perform w Yacht Rock Schooner (still perform with regularly) and later Electric Ave! All of which are “high-level”, professional, touring festival bands.
