When I was in high school I coached middle school saxophone students and successfully prepared them for their biannual jazz concert. My experience, however, is as an all-around musician. My teaching style is very much based in what each individual student wants to learn. I dont see the point of force feeding something that will just make the person no longer want to participate in the wonders of music. Scales are a large part of every good musician so I will attempt to make them fun and useful! Music theory for non majors is what I took in college and it is a much more open and less regimented form of learning the intricacies behind the theory. Read More

For all beginners, I start off with basics. I like to use the Rubank Beginner (or intermediate) book along with weekly scales. A well rounded musical foundation is vitally important, so I make sure to balance classical training with ear training assignments that get the student to listen critically to music they're passionate about.
